    All,

    I made an update to the Weather Alert program.

    To get started, send an email to weather-alert@jetpackshark.com with your location in the subject.

    In return, you'll get weather forecasts every 4 hours including the local radar. Also, at the same time, it will check for severe weather alerts and notify you at the same time.

    If you want to update your location, simply send another email to weather-alert@jetpackshark.com with a new location in your subject line.

    If you can't wait for the next weather update email, weather@jetpackshark.com will still work as it always has - send a location in the subject line of your email.

    Xtify Inside!!
    ===========

    Also, if your Peek is enabled for location tracking using Xtify (What? Yours isn't?? Send an email to dan -at- getpeek.com to get set up!) weather alerts and forecasts follow you.

    Thanks!
    Mark

    @rla - good point! If you want to unsubscribe, simply send "unsubscribe" (minus the quotes) to weather-alert@jetpackshark.com

    @Tom - yeah! use both! :-)

    Both makes sense since Ent doesn't do severe weather yet.

    Can we get severe weather alerts without the 4 hour weather update? I don't care that much about the weather, but if something unexpected happens, I want to know. I like weather once a week and thats about it.

    @impel That's a good point. And, even better, separating them makes things simpler for me (which is always a plus).

    Ok, Severe Alerts are now separate from regular Weather Alerts...here's the details:

    severe-alert@jetpackshark.com
    -------------------------------------
    Send location in subject to sign-up / change location or unsubscribe in the subject to not get alerts any more. Checks for new severe weather alerts once per hour (of course, you don't get an email once per hour...just checks for alerts once per hour).

    weather-alert@jetpackshark.com
    ---------------------------------------
    Send location in subject to sign-up / change location or unsubscribe in the subject to not get alerts any more. Sends out weather updates every 4 hours.

    **PLEASE NOTE**
    --------------------
    If you are already signed up for the services, I have assumed that you want both on the schedule indicated. If you'd like to not receive the notifications, you'll have to unsubscribe to the one you don't want.

    Also, weather@jetpackshark.com still works for "on-demand" weather updates as usual.

    Thanks!
    Mark

    I DO NOT want updates every 4 hours, maybe 8 - if that. 4 is just too much.

    @njxxxjon - I can definitely appreciate the sentiment, but I can't think of an elegant/easy way to let someone manage their own schedule without doing a web login type thing (which a simple "email you the weather" app does not really need). To be honest, I picked every 4 hours because it seemed like an aribitrary amount of time that equaled "every so often"

    I'm curious though - regarding the frequency / schedule - What does everybody else think? every 4, 6, 8, 12 hrs?

    4's good for me-I like it!
    But then again, I'm a weather junkie. LOL (and it's not like we're paying for bandwidth here.....you could just delete every other email!)

    @MarkB - thanks for considering my comment. I just signed up.

    And just FYI, I was in Cypress, Tx yesterday and there was some bad weather, so i tried to get a radar, but it gave me a whole different city in TX. I had to redo it for Houston.

    Thanks impel! Your suggestion made a lot of sense. Glad to have you aboard.

    Now, about Cypress, Tx - it looks as if there is more than one Cypress in Texas. For fun - go to google maps and type in Cypress, Tx - instead of getting the Cypress you want that's near Houston, instead you get something much further north. That's the one that the weather app is using.

    If you find yourself in the Cypress near Houston (or anywhere else where the weather result doesn't look quite right), try adding in a street name beside the city to get greater accuracy.

    I queried with Spring Cypress Rd Cypress,TX and got the expected radar and forecast.
