Unfortunately Youtube is blocked here at work so I can't look at the videos in the blog. Care to explain the basics of the Exchange support? Is it OWA as you stated yesterday Tom? Any plans for basic calendar support through OWA?

I have both and I do agree that the KB on the newer is just a bit easier to use. The original was far from hard to use but the newer kb is simply very very pleasant. Best kb I have ever used on a portable device for sure.

Ah! I am glad this is still confusing!

    1. Is the hardware on the Pronto the same as with the Classic?
It seems from what is being said, that the only difference is the version of software available on the Peek.

    2. I like being able to send messages to friends' cell phones.
If I upgrade my 1.08 Peek, will I be able to send messages to friends' cell phones?
I saw mentioned of a 1.09a and a 1.09b. What is the difference and how do I make sure
I can have 5 accounts, push mail, AND text to cell phones along with all other wonderful new
    features?

    No idea about the calendar.

Per other postings.. if you are part of the CTP program, Gabe will release instructions in the next 48 hours. If you are not - one can call Peek Customer Care *now* and arrange for your upgrade (assuming you have a Peek) after April 6 (edited).

If you don't have a Peek right now... I'll need to defer to a paid Peek person on when Amazon will be shipping.

I never thought I'd be so confused. So if my 1.08 is shipped for upgrade to 1.09 it will still have texting. If, however, I go to the store next week and drop $49 on a Peek "Classic" I will not have texting. I would need to buy the one-color only $79 version. So you are upgrading current subscribers, and then creating two versions for future customers to decide on. Yes? What in the upgrade to "Pronto" will the 1.08 "Classic" users not going to get by not having the new hardware, besides a softer keyboard?

However, stores will most likely not have the newest Peek's available just yet, stay tuned for that information.

Yeah, I'm guessing (and this is JUST a guess, since I'm not a paid-Peek person).. that if you went to Target next week and got a 1.04-1.08 version... you'll be able to upgrade to 1.09 Pronto/premium for nada. JUST a guess based on how customer-friendly Peek has shown itself to be.

so my new peek i bought yesterday will have the exact same features as the pronto - and will get the same updates as the pronto from here on out. so our current peeks will be in step with the pronto services, features and upgrade-wise?
    • CommentAuthorpambudgie
    • CommentTimeMar 24th 2009

tonyjk3 - yes, as long as you act to keep it that way. IE, one has to proactively upgrade by doing it yourself, or sending the device to Peek (or, not yet stated... collaborating with another Peekster who HAS the cable and is already upgraded).

if i know it will be just like the pronto - and both the classic and pronto use the same cable for upgrades - i will buy the cable and keep it updated. if the pronto has a better upgrade system - that might be worth the cost to upgrade.

but as long as i get push, docs and pdf viewing, texting, etc and the speed increase - i think i'll be happy.

my whole point to this is that if they would have just said the pronto was hardware, i just would have waited and bought it - at some point the pronto is going to diverge from our grandfathered classics in terms of features and performance. i hope by that time Peek has an upgrade program in place to trade up Classics for Prontos for a reduced purchase price.

Pronto is on the same hardware. The software features are what is different. If you have an earlier version of Peek software (1.08 or less) we or you can upgrade it for free.

You guys (and gals) are going to think I'm a putz (which I probably am) but.......bear with me. I'm a bit slow (ok a lot slow on the uptake) :

I have the original peek *recently purchased* that came with software version 1.07.
So when I get the "Pronto" update... I'll still have my texting , along with push, docs, and all that good stuff?

If so I'll be a happy sentient carbon based life form.

tonyjk3 - to clarify... at the moment, the hardware is exactly the same. And the upgrade cable is the same. Keep in mind the upgrades are (at the moment) not trouble-free, and do not work on all platforms (ie, Mac is not supported, and historically some folks with cables were unable to make upgrades work for them).

That said, Peek is constantly enhancing their devices' capabilities, as we see. Just wanted to point out that if one is technophobic, the better upgrade path for now may be via Peek's services.. .vs a cable. I know it's hard to part from a Peek though, even for a few days.

Just a small clarification on upgrades.

If you call in to upgrade to Peek Pronto, we will not be able to do an upgrade until April 6th. Therfore, you may send it in now and have it sit their until April 6th, or you can send your Peek in AFTER April 6th.

Please call Care at 1-877-677-7335 (PEEK) to schedule an upgrade with our New York Office.
  1.
How long does the upgrade take? and how is my peek shipped back.

I need an upgrade and since i have to send it in, I was trying to wait til 1.09 released. But I need my peek back no later then april 10th. I have to have my peek for school. Especially next term...and school starts on the 13th.

I would be willing to pay for overnight shipping I just want to make sure that I can get my peek back before the 10th.

You may use whatever shipping method you like.

We get the Peek, spend about 20 minutes upgrading it. We then send it back to you USPS 2-3 days Priorty Mail.

We generally send Peek's back out the same day we receive them!
  2.
:P I should use a vacation day and drive up to NYC and get my peek upgraded and see a show. :)

It would be worth the trip.

Tom, I was asking is there anyway to get my peek overnighted back to me>

lumpygirl2002 - heads-up.. if there's stuff that's *only* on your Peek (ie, not on your mail service's server).. you'll want to save that off before sending the Peek to NYC. Sounds like there may not be any such material... but just in case. Stuff that's Peek-resident-only will be erased.
  4.
wow wow wow!!! it looks like its going to be a long day at the peek HQ today. like the day they had the unlimited peek service plan.

tom, gabe, and david are going to be hearing questions in there sleep tonight. hehe =)

but im confused why you wouldnt want the pronto service. for 20 more u get push email and 3 more accounts.
which is another thing im confused about. so the new classic is loosing an email account while the pronto is gainning 2.. looks like peek is playing robin hood. " stealing from the classic and giving to the pronto". haha

it just seems dumb not to get full services you pay for. i mean ur paying 20 a month for either one so mine as well have the push email and more accounts. and the text messaging even if u dont use it.
  5.
    Hi Pam.

Thanks but I dont save things on my peek. I save them on my mail server.

Pimp. I plan on upgrading to the Pronto software but I need to schedule my upgrade so I am not without my peek at the wrong time.

From what i read the hardware stays the same but the software is the only change. Since I have 1.06 I get the upgrade for free.

I know which one I'd pick, but I also know that pam is right in that every dollar counts in this day and age.
  7.
yea but i would just save my allowence for another week or two.. hehe it would be worth the wait. =)

its like buying a car in florida that has air condition. but the same car come in 2 models. one is 100 cheaper then the other but the one that cost a little more you can use the air condition but the cheaper one you cant. but yet it still has all the air condition hardware in their but they just didnt put a power switch to turn it on.

i know my example isnt tottally what im trying to say. but basically its not fair for the classic peeksters to have to pay the same amount of monthly service fee but yet get half the benefits that they could be getting for the same price.
  8.
well unless i guess you could buy the cheaper one and then send it out to get it flashed with the pronto version on it. but then ur still paying for shipping. or if you do it yourself then ur still having to buy the data cable.
so unless u have a peekster as a neighbor with a data cable. then ur best bet is to just save a little extra and go with the pronto..

and no tom and gabe arent paying me to push out sales on the pronto!!! hehe =)

What's running through my head when I was talking about "every dollar counts".. I talked someone into a Peek.. and then her husband got furloughed. Meaning automatic, *immediate*, 10% pay cut. They were saving every dollar they could to make their next rent payment. So had to put off buying their Peek for a month or two. She was so happy when I told her (after I bought her a Peek from eBay) that I could get her a free service month.

Just a thought for those of us with a bit more disposable income. There are those who have less... and without as easy a way to free up extra $. :(

but you are right. alot of us are pinching pennys now a days to make ends meet.
so i guess we should all be thankful that peek makes choices for us to pick and not just one level.

@shifty_ : In my opinion it depends on your level of techno-savvy. IF your platform is supported by the upgrade software (most are, major exceptions being Windows 7 and Mac)... and if you're ok working through your first self-upgrade (took me 3 hrs the first time)... go for it yourself.

If you already upgraded yourself for 1.08.. 1.09 is a snap to do yourself.

Otherwise... send to Peek (or try to find a friendly Peekster in your neighborhood who's already upgraded themselves to 1.09 to have them do it - there's not a lot of those at this very moment).

Okay, so that clears it up, I work for an IT department so I'll more than likely be able to figure it out, and my peeks at 1.04, so does that mean i have to upgrade it through the incremental upgrades or just apply the final 1.09 patch?

And i'm assuming the patch is going to become available next week.

@shifty_ : The upgrades replace the entire software set on your Peek, so you can go straight from 1.04 to 1.09 without passing Go :)

Gabe has stated on the boards that if you're in the Crash Test Pilot program, he'll talk to you in about 48 hours. Otherwise.. it'll be a couple of weeks (not next week) to allow for further shakeout of the software and the upgrade process. Hope that helps!

@pimpdaddypat: Based on what the company has been saying today, if you were to go and buy the base model right now you would not be able to upgrade to the Pronto software--you have to buy the upper model to get the upper software. Note that this does not apply if you bought one previous to the split as you get grandfathered in and can upgrade to the Pronto software free of charge.
