Subject says it. I understand (though I'm not certain) that the Peek device uses T-Mobile's network. The lifetime deal seems like a good one, but if Peek goes under, I would assume the service would too. Or, does the lifetime deal guarantee connetivity via T-Mobile for at least T-Mobile's lifetime? Thanks.

Good question. I've been asking the same question of TiVO for about four years and somehow they stay in business without turning any real profit.

If this Lifetime service offer was the new standard sales pitch, I think it would be a bad sign. Since it is a one day deal, it might not be as dire an indicator as some believe.

well since its only good for that peek that you purchase the plan with. i doubt you will have it for more then 2 years anyhow. and thats probly what peek is counting on anyways.
so yea it sounds great but whos going to keep the same device for 2 years or more anyways.
it will be so out dated by the end of this year yet alone 2010. and after that who knows if it would even work.

but its still a good deal cause you pay for all the service up front. and dont have to worry about a monthly charge. just as long as you dont loose or break the device

So... if you took your SIM card with the lifetime subscription out of your Peek and put it in an unlocked gsm cell phone, would you have unlimited T-Mobile for life? I know cell phones (and probably the Peek devices) can be locked to only work with a certain providers SIM cards but I haven't ever heard anyone mention if a SIM can be coded to only work with a particular device. And the Peek device is kind of emulating a cell phone already. If it did work, would that violate any legal agreements or make corporate Peek angry?

its already been mentioned that the sim will not work in a cell phone.
i dont understand it either but im sure its probly provisioned for data only.

all i know is that its been asked before on here and tom said go ahead and try it but it wont work

ah okay, i was just curious. i'd try the SIM swap if some fool didn't put a 'Warranty Void..." sticker all over mine. plus i dont have a gsm cell phone. those cell phones are for suckers, totally last year, and all that

Thanks for the responses. Two years would be an acceptable "lifetime". Or, at least, I'd feel like I got a good deal. But, with today's economy being what it is, you have to wonder if we'd get 6 months. No ill will meant toward Peek, but nearly every company's at risk these days.

Talk about unprecedented conditions... BofA stock at $7? $.01 quarterly dividend? Jeesh....
