Actually it will be a year in February, but I don't expect any real changes by then and I'm ready to write now.

    This is pretty simple.

I've purchased 4 or 5 Peeks since February '09. I've upgrade to Pronto and I've had the two previous versions of the software.

I've had the service "switched" from one device to another and I've had the service shut out for a week or two or three (not sure) because of none payment .

I've visited the NYC office, spoke with Peek over the phone, in emails and in these message boards.

I've dealt with service outages caused by one thing or another.

I've had a brand new Peek (the one I'm using now) completely submerged in a cup of Pepsi one day after I purchased it. (My two year old likes to dunk things.) This Peek is also a survivor of a mild case of domestic violence, just two chipped keys. (Long Story.)

In any case, I can say without the slightest of reservations that after the novelty is gone, Peek is a solid investment. Yes I said investment.

I've seen many devices and I've used many devices. I'm tempted by the most affordable of devices designed for text and email; Virgin Mobile, Metro PCS, AT&T GO, Boost Mobile, and others. None of them makes more sense than my Peek.

Peek the company is tops in customer service and I can say something about them that I can't say of any other company engaged in any business, that is that they are fair.

I have yet to meet another Peekster in public, however, that dose not dissuade me.

To sum it up, I have to say that Peek Simply Makes Sense.

I've been a Peekster since April - so 7 months. I picked it up simply because I liked technology gadgets, but don't really have the cash to afford the ones that do what I want. And since I don't use the cell phone too much (and have a prepay phone), adding on web & email service wasn't really an option.

What I like best about this product is the community of users that actively work together to make it better and easier: Users have developed "applications" for it. Customer support is very good. The boards are great and they are always looking for suggestions. In addition, It was easy for me to find a local Peekster to upgrade my Peek.

The only complaint I have is with the service although it definitely has improved since I first started. I remember outages for days at a time and now it is down to an hour or two every once and a while. The only problem that has been frequent lately is having to remove and add back accounts because they get "stuck" and no emails come in.

But the complaints don't sit too hard with me because this service is really "email on a budget". Even with the nice keyboard and other features, I think a lot of people are getting Peeks because it is $20/month or $180/year or even $200-$300 lifetime (which is what I am). Since I'm not spending much on this service, I'm not too upset when it stops working. I know in time it will get better. Plus I know many Sidekick users still having issues - worse than Peek has ever been, and they are paying 3 times a much.

So, yes, I LOVE my Peek and hope to have many more years of fun with it too. Hopefully they succeed and I do end up with a lifetime of service :)

@hdtravel - if you followed me on twitter you would see that I periodically post about how I 'm happy with Peek and/or why it's a good idea for others. I get paid nothing, and I'm being honest so no pay is required. When you think about it, your Peek gives you a lot to brag about.

Ditto to what srandallthomas said! I've had my Peek since last November and since I travel all week and am shooting photographs most days "in the field" all day, I can't always have a laptop with me but I needed to keep in touch all day long with clients, various companies, labs etc. The Peek is the most important business AND personal device a person could own without a doubt. It has literally made me lots of money and has saved me lots of money and time. Oh yeah, and I keep up with family all day too! I have no complaints, I have my Pronto on 24/7, and it works great! - Rich -

I have had my Peek for about 8 months and I LOVE it. I have had nothing but good service (a few outages in the beginning) from the the Peek and from the staff and hopefully soon I'll be getting a TwitterPeek also ;-). I got a Peek for my wife and I have 2 more, one that I use to charge the extra battery to carry around if I Peek my battery out and the other un-opened for a backup. I use it all time! Thanks Peek! I look forward to many more months/years ahead.

@cgingerrich - Glad it does it for you !

When I first got a Peek this past summer I was pretty excited, but as I used it more I got pretty frustrated by it's short comings and limitations. Then I got more ruffled when they came out with the TwitterPeek thingie. I know I sound like a broken record, but I think they should have added that functionality to our Peek Pronto. That was what they were hinting at doing and then wham, out came the TwiiterPeek fiasco leaving us high and dry.

Maybe I am just really spoiled having used BlackBerry and IPhone platforms which can do a lot very well. But of course you pay $$ more. I used the Mercedes devices and I am comparing them to the Peek "Yugo" device. Remember the "Yugo" car. That is what the Peek reminds me of. Kinda cute, basic, economy minded, limited, works ok, no frills, sometimes unreliable, gets you there in a no frills kind of way. "Yugo Peek."

@hdtravel "I know I sound like a broken record" - yes you do. We all know from your numerous posts about why the Peek is not a good option for you, but that does not mean that it is also a bad option for others. You should be able to freely speak your mind, but your negativity is not needed after every single positive post. For some people, a smart phone really is not an option.

    @ hdtravel:
Ha, smart phones are cool, but do the math. I can talk and text all day and night on my Tracfone for roughly $9.95 a mo. and email and text and twitter all day and night on the Peek for $14.99 a mo. Try doing all that on an iPhone, BlackBerry, Pre or Droid for $24.94 a month! Can't be done, my friend. The smartphone will cost you over $1,000 in the next year and probably $2,000-$3,000 over the next two. The cost of the average Tracfone now is about 14.95 w/cam, bluetooth, data. The Peek can be bought for as little as $11.95 right now @ my local Target and upgraded for free.
One thing you'll never do with a smartphone that I can do all day is, look @ an email and answer it or text to people while I'm talking to a client on the phone @ the same time. I'll pass on smartphone for now until monthly plans get reasonable. If our devices were all wi-fi we'd never have to pay for service! D'OH!

Of the good and the bad, if you are comfortable, would you mind stating your location? Broad is fine ("a big city in the northeast").

I'm trying to get a good comparison about the service by location.

I'm very very happy with Peek, in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area.

@ hdtravel like rich, I too am a photographer. I don't believe that my standards a lower or that I'm easier to satisfy than anyone else. In fact, I believe my standards are kind of high. I don't want or need my Peek to surf the web or be able to make three-way calls. If the Peek did that I would not have one. Some would argue that the Peek is a "Dumb-Down" or crippled device, I would argue that it is as crippled as an AK-47. Just as the AK was designed to do one job so is the Peek. It's not a "smart" phone.

I haven't shaped my needs to meet the Peek, it's like they designed this device for me. I can give you a laundry list of reasons why I'm happy that the Peek doesn't include all of the things that other devices include.

Now if some one would just come out with a cell that does not come with text, camera, gps, web, etc. Just a phone with no other capabilities.

I have one of those SafeLink Wireless phones. I carry it just in case I need to make a call, but I keep it turned off so I charge it like once per month. I have yet to give anyone the number, including family.....well the wife has it. But after calling and getting no answer, she's got the point, email me.

By-The-Way, most pro photographers....at least those that I know took a negative view at dSLR's adding video capabilities. A pro knows that a device that does everything does nothing well. You get the device that does one job to do that job if you want that job done right. The Peek does one job, when the mic doesn't work on my cell phone, it does not mean that I have to replace my Peek, just the phone.

@srandall From a computer science PhD student, this principle is true as well. Software that does everything does nothing well.

However, from the perspective of photographers... I've seen footage from some new DSLRs, and they have some remarkable video modes, enough to blow away a comparably-priced dedicated video camera...

Okay. I only get the opportunity to get on here.......well, less than I'd like to. But you guys are great and weird.

    Lighting up some ho's? Dude....maybe 20 years ago.....MAYBE!

Yes the video on these new dSLR's is amazing, and photographers are going to have to live with it and maybe come to love it.

I'm not getting paid by anyone to post my views. Although, I did just get an offer for a free TwitterPeek......actually it's not an "offer". The guys at Peek just asked if I'd like one and I said yes so they're sending one with six months of service included. My only reservation is that I may grow to love it as I do my Pronto. It's akin to having another mouth to feed.

I've looked at all of those wireless companies. A few, just a few, three at best have offers that are very tempting. But here's the thing: I honestly and fundamentally appreciate the fact that my phone and texting/email devices are separated. Like church and state, it just works better that way, everything from battery usage to damage and/or repairs.

Listen, I currently have two (2) separate legal battles underway being handled by two (2) separate law firms with a total of six (6) attorneys that I correspond with on a regular basis and believe it or not, I would estimate that no less than 95% of our correspondence I carry out on my Peek. And I would have it no other way.

On another note kinda, I have to say that this issue of is "Peek good or not" I take a bit seriously. Here's why, I see that this mobile communications "era" if you will, has a dark side to it in terms of the negative financial effects it can have on the least fortunate amongst us. Most will not see this and will not give a damn if they do. I believe that Peek can be a lot more than just another mobile device. This is not to say that Peek is doing something wrong. I just wish that more people knew that Peek is an option. I think that if more people were to be introduced to Peek, they would choose Peek.

I met a young girl a few years ago who went out to prostitute herself for the first time in her life, and she did it to pay a phone bill. Yea, I know, she may be unique but those desperate situations that some (mostly young people) encounter as a result of these contracts and fees isn't unique. Not to mention that some mobile devices have become status symbols with some, the negative results have been crimes, to say the least. And I can go on and on.

I know that the blame can be placed a lot of places, mostly with those negatively effected. However, I believe that Peek is just the solution to spread on this blaze to temper it to some degree. In fact, Peek is the only device and service that seems to go out of its way to not contribute to this fire in our culture.

So there you go, those are just a few of the reasons that I highly recommend Peek, that's on top of the fact that it works well and simply makes good sense.

I've used my Peek on trips from Oregon to Oklahoma and all I had to do was turn it off and back on to get service.

Peek has really good coverage, and unlike a phone I don't have to worry about dropped calls.

For me it is approaching 2 months now, that I have had the Peek. I was trying to reduce costs because I became a casualty of the current economy and so I figured why not give it a try. I am definitely glad that I did. Like a lot of people on here, I carry a pay as you go phone, as well as the Peek. However, I find I hardly use the phone anymore. When I do, it is usually my wife, because she still shuns texting, and sees email as a faster version of snail mail (send and walk away for a day or two). I’m still trying to convince her to try the Peek, but she is a hard sell.

Overall, I am generally happy with the service. I have only experienced one day where I had any delays. I am definitely happy with the customer service. My first post was immediately responded to by tmel and was followed up by a phone call to answer my additional questions.

The 3rd party resources like Ent (thanks crc) make the Peek much more useful than I had ever expected it to be. I love the email for information concept. I don’t have to wade through tiny web pages on a tiny screen to get the information I need. I send a quick email (usually based off of a template) and let the server take care of it for me. It can’t get much easier than that.

I recently accepted a new position and assuming the company doesn’t have an issue with it, I plan to use the Peek for my work email as well. This would have been a great device to have with my last job. I spent countless hours at night responding via email to other software developers I was supervising in Singapore. To do that, I lugged the laptop home every night, and once the computer was up and running, I still had to go check on it every once in a while to see if anything new had arrived. None of that would have been necessary with the Peek in my pocket.

Needless to say, my three months are up at the end of December, and I will definitely renew for another 3 months, unless I change to the lifetime plan (I have to convince my wife first).

You made a wise investment. As to the wife I have a suggestion:
If she has a facebook page it would be great but not necessary, and if she's on twitter that's even better bu not necessary.

Here's what you do, get here a TwitterPeek for x-mas. If she has a twitter account she'll love it. If she doesn't all isn't lost.

Setup a twitter account for her and do a search on twitter (from your computer) for all the things that would interest her. That might be CNN, CSPAN, or other news groups. You can also visit any websites that she likes to visit, chances are that they will have a twitter account for people to follow their updates.

And if she is on facebook, show her how she can post to facebook from twitter.

Present it as a way for her to stay updated on her interest as opposed to an affordable way to communicate. She'll love it.

However, there is one downside to this "scheme", that is that in the process you too are likely to become addicted to TwitterPeek.

By-The-Way, in testing the TwitterPeek today I discovered that this thing is blazingly fast. I don't think Pronto is this fast. I mean this thing is really fast.

Sit in front of your computer (whatever site that shows your tweet feed) send a tweet from the TwitterPeek let your message disappear from the TwitterPeek screen. Put down the Peek and hit refresh on the computer. You won't get the opportunity to hit refresh again, your message will be there.

That's your message hitting Peeks server, then hitting twitter, then hitting a third party like let's say facebook. This thing is fast.
