    Hey Peeksters!

We will be pushing some new system features to the live servers as well as fixing those annoying bugs everyones had to deal with for waaaay too long! (I want my Gmail contacts, and I want them now!)

Server maintenance will occur tomorrow (THURS) between 6-8 AM EST. Note 2 hour span. During this time, you may experience delayed emails/text and could even miss an email or two on your device.

Thanks for your patience, I'll post tomorrow AM if we need to have prolonged maintenance!

    Patch Notes:

    Fix Gmail Contact Downloads
Resolve lingering issues with Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts that do not receive randomly
Fix Reply All and editing Reply To address
Fix Invalid Username/Password combo on newly added Google Apps accounts
Fix emails with funky headers/symbols (generally spam mail) causing device to perpetually reboot. (Related to some really old code)
Twitter Peek stuff and a ton of other really in depth changes to our server environment. Amazon Web Services is amazing! We've also recently built our own in house data center and are actively moving our databases off of the Amazon cloud for increased performance!

For the future: We will be doing a MAJOR release that will be adding a ton more exchange server functionality! - No time line established yet though.

Do you guys ever post patch notes? Something that lists every single change you've made in a patch so that the customers know exactly what changed and which problems should be fixed? Hadn't ever seen mention of one so I was wondering.
  2.
Yeah I would like to know about patch notes as well. Besides the software change patchnotes.

@cursedgolem - You mean the www.getpek.com footer in text messages? That's not going anywhere..(as far as I know), so lets not turn this topic into another debate about it. I'd imagine we will take action on it if we see enough traffic on http:/youtellus.getpeek.com about it.

Patch notes? Yeah, that makes sense. I'll see if I can muster something up with the tech ops team....but no promises!

Hurrah for bugfixes! Looking forward to tomorrow. =)

I'd be greatly gratified by patch notes in an RSS feed (the standard name for this being, to my understanding, a "changelog.") Publishing a changelog some way or another is common for software for several reasons. It helps keep fans excited about development and confident in your interest in supporting the device. It also helps with troubleshooting problems since users can relate new behavior to new changes and report relevant information instead of ignoring things that don't seem important. That's my perspective on that, anyway.

Regarding the text message problem: I wouldn't really call it a debate since no one has argued for it yet.

@valzi - That's true. However, I have brought it up with a couple of my colleges and we are currently looking at a way of improving the situation for everyone involved.

    We're not evil! :p

A bit off-topic, but part of the current off-topic conversation:

tmel: I'm sorry if the selfish demands of customers make you feel personally maligned. I'd probably feel a bit the same way. I also realize that poor decisions generally do not seem poor at the time and that you were probably not each in on every decision, but that you need to defend the overall situation that you're each a part of, since you're a team and a company. Please don't take my complaints personally unless I specifically make them personal. Also, I hope you don't take other customer's complaints, rants, and various frustrations personally. Even if someone vents specifically at one of your team, it's probably misdirected frustration.

That said, I'll certainly continue to voice my concerns about various issues until I sense their resolution (even if that just means finding out that something I consider a problem is something the Peek folks consider a necessity.)

Keep up the good work guys.

@valzi - I love when you guys complain/provide feedback. It lets me know what I need to harass my team members about so that we can improve our product and make Peek the best thing since sliced bread!

I know I have said this before, but we really do listen and care what you guys think. We love Peek, we love our customers. We're nothing without a happy customer base!

Peeksters - We are all clear!

All post deployment testing as passed and we will continue to closely monitor all systems throughout the day. Please do not hesitate to contact us immediately should you find your Peek service to be working less then satisfactory as a result of this maintenance.

    Thanks

EDIT: Reply All and Editing the "To:" field still seems to be a bit dicey and we are investigating the root cause.

As of now, email is fine, and Gmail contacts download without a hitch.

Thanks to all involved for fixing this.

It may sound insignificant, but I really like the Gmail contact download feature. It very well could have been a dealbreaker, but I am happy again.

From what I can tell, ReplyAll is working good, and changing the "To:" in a reply sends to both the original sender and edited To field.

So, tiny bug still, but better than completely ignoring my edits ;)

@tmel I know you guys have plenty of resources for testing, but I have wayyy too many email addresses, so if you need someone outside the office to test something like this let me know. Plus I'm a computer science PhD student so I know my debugging ;-)

I haven't received a single PeekFeed today... am I the only one?

Not sure if this is related at all, but it seemed appropriate considering there were changes made.

PeekFeed is a 3rd party service and has nothing to do with your Peek service.

I'd suggest checking out http://peekfeed.com/feedback.php for support.

Any news on the server problem?

I just noticed another symptom of the same problem – if you get a message from Name@mail.com, Peek automatically converts it to lowercase on the device (name@mail.com), and the server still has its copy, so replying to that message sends 2 messages, one to name@mail.com and one to Name@mail.com.

This is no big deal for email clients (at least Gmail collapses multiples, it seems). But if I'm sending to something like Google Voice, these get counted twice, and the person gets 2 texts. I think this is the only symptom that's going to actually be annoying for me.

Aha, so that's what the problem is. Some of my friends are less technologically-inclined and will open both txts, which will cost them money.

I've noticed an odd behavior of my peek recently, and thought it might be server related.

I'm finding when I email myself using my gmail account to the same account on gmail, I don't get an email showing the message on my peek. But if I email from another account to my gmail account, I do get that email. The message does show up in gmail itself.

I'm pretty sure that's normal with Gmail. Gmail won't show you the second copy of the email, it's actually only one, on their interface. Sent mail doesn't go to Peek, and that message is considered a sent message.

    Anyone confirm or correct me?

I can send myself an email on my Peek using gmail and it arrives on my Peek just like any other.

Edit: sending myself test messages like that and using my wifes Peek is exactly how I was testing my Peek

Sorry if this is off topic, but I don't want to start another thread.

Has PDF support been changed? I just received a PDF on Sunday and noticed I wasn't able to open it. I think I remember hearing that not all PDF are supported (if they don't have text), I think I have opened the same PDF type from the same sender before.
