Is sms down right now? Mine not going through, and the texts in the Sent folder, the subject lines are italicized.

If you have messages in your Sent folder as italicized, that means that your Peek is currently unable to send the message due to no network connection.

I would recommend you turn your Peek off/on, and that should allow your Peek to properly reacquire the signal and your messages should be sent!

Had trouble with mine not working twice today as well. First time was around 9:11am and I noticed that I hadn't received anything for awhile and when I moved my Peek my signal strength didn't change (it usually changes a little just by moving it around). So, I tried to reboot but then the Peek stopped responding so I had to remove the battery and after that all was good. Then it just happened again about 30 minutes ago and so I came here to see if anyone else was having a problem and I saw this thread. Had to resort to taking the battery out again as it stopped responding.

Tom, do you have any clue as to why my Peek would seem to be fine but not receiving e-mails and then require the battery to be removed after it fails to shut off? This is what was happening to my wifes Peek and mine on occassion.

When you attempt to power off your Peek with the on/off button, before it turns off it is very busy finishing up any jobs that it must do...generally these are network related.

I've had to hold my power button for 30 seconds before my Peek would turn off when I was in a really bad coverage area.

I can receive but can't send texts or email today. Just realized they're all queued in the sent folder. Have powered on/off, battery out, etc.

After further investigation, we seem to be currently experiencing issues with outgoing email/texts from the Peek.

We are currently looking into the root cause of this issue and will have it corrected shortly. Keep in mind Peeksters, once we find out why something happens....we make it a top priority to take every possible measure to ensure that the same issue does not become a recurring issue.

    Thanks!

    Resolved as of 3:20pm MST!
  1.
None of my peeks seem to be working properly at all today. I just had an employee get a flood of emails from 10/16/09. And, the other emails I have sent out today to my employee's peeks seem to be arriving very delayed.

Mine began working again at about 4:05 pm MST as my wife then started texting me back about messages I had sent her 2 hours before.

edit: Tom, I held my Peeks power down for over a minute once just to see and as far as I know it wasn't doing anything like receiving an e-mail at the time that would have slowed it down. However, I'm not sure how often a Peek tries to resend a message if it doesn't go through (like it was doing today). If it is constantly trying to send out my message that could explain why it wouldn't shut off.

Also, do you guys have any way of knowing when these outages occur (short of us letting you know)? Seems like whenever something goes wrong it is a Peek customer that alerts you guys to it. Or is that just my imagination?

@Eric - Yes, we have a company that monitors our complete infrastructure 24/7 as well as automated email alerts. We generally try to validate the cause of the issue before we notify our customer base. Generally, you guys are REALLY quick to tell us something is wrong.

Yeah, in a business like yours I'm sure you do hear from the customers pretty fast when a problem occurs. Was just wondering if you had some other means of notification.

NOW, the REAL question is, what do you use to get those "automated email alerts"? Since you can't exactly use a Peek to get notifications that your Peeks aren't working I'm sure you use something else. LOL

I'm having trouble receiving as well, though sending works. Since 3:50pm today my Gmail account shows 7 new messages, and only one of those came through on the Peek. That one was an hour later on the Peek than Gmail. I've powered off and on and taken out the battery... Is there something else I need to do on my side, or is this a server problem?

If anyone is curious as to why things break sometimes....here is why:

Our email server is powered by hamsters. Recently, the hamsters have begun to revolt as they feel that we overwork them. We plan to upgrade to gerbils in the coming weeks, which should resolve the issue!

Better keep close eye on those gerbils. They have a voracious appetite. Sometimes they resort to cannibalism.
