I'm currently working on an extremely simple page of text with as much info as I can put on of services and keyboard shortcuts so we can just print one sheet and pass it on to new peekster and for our own references of the services like ent and askpeek.

However, I'm just not sure how to properly credit the owner and creators of these services without cluttering up the printout. I'm thinking of just making a small text line of the associated sites that these info was lifted from on the bottom of each section. I'll have to ask the creator/owners first though.

This page only focus on maximum clarity with as much essential info possible onto a single page. I'm still adding ent, entx, askpeek, and some other commands to the lists but I would like to see if anybody here could provide links to other services and info on keyboard shortcuts. Remember, I only want services that does not require online action like signing up for ping.fm. I only want to list commands-via-e-mail based service like CRC's awesome ent & entx.

I will wait until I find out how crc and respective creator/owner feels about this before posting the link to the quickguide though.

I wanted to make the quickguide so my girlfriend can review it for her new peek (she finally got it in the mail from me today :D ) and for me to print it out and give it to a few friends that I got onto the peeks. But since I haven't really seen any site that collaborated all of these info into one single page to be printed out, I might as well try to share it and help everyone out a little. So once I post the link, any constructive criticism and corrections is welcome. :)

so far I have the ent, entx, and askpeek listed. now I'm looking at the keyboard shortcuts.

I've looked at snapask.com and it seem that most of the functionality there have already been covered by ent/x already so I'll only include some of the snapask commands if there are demands for it.

@ CRC, let me know if you are okay with me sharing the quick guide with almost all of the commands listing together on one page. I've included your website address on the bottom of each appropriate sections for credits. if there is anything about it you would like me to change, let me know.

    :EDIT:
now includes 3mindme, and weather-alert@jetpack.com. working on shortcut keys now. I'm thinking of going ahead and post the link to the page once I'm done with the shortcut keys since I've included links to all of these info anyway. If the owner/creator don't want it up, they can post the request here and I'll edit the corresponding parts out to their request.

I've done what I can for tonight. it is getting too late in the evening for me to focus anymore so here is what I have done so far. I will be working on making it more compact so it'll look better when printed on a single sheet of paper.

The only thing I ask is that if you know of a shortcut or services that I have not listed, please post it here and I'll try to edit and include into the page. Just remember that I cannot list a shortcut until I know exactly what software version is that supported in. for example, I've saw that holding enter on the compile screen sends the message, I would include that except that I don't know how far back does the peek support this particular shortcut? is it originally from 1.04 or as new as the 1.09 software version?

also, if you think that some part of the list could use a better description or formatting or anything to do with the layout, go ahead and post what you think here. the whole purpose of this page is to help everyone out and I want to try and make the page as efficient as possible.

Hopefully I can continue to compile all of the relevant information together so it'll be kept up to date and can be used to help new and old peekster alike.

quick tip to have the entire page sent to your e-mail. You can then forward it to friends and whatnot. I just need to figure out why the line break is not being properly displayed in the e-mail so it can format better for ent's "www" function.

@deafcyclist - this is very cool! Thanks for putting in the time and creating this for fellow Peeksters. This is not only going to help new Peeksters but HQ will get use out of it too.

    Thanks again.

Yeah :) have anybody tried printing this out? I haven't had any chance to lately so I have absolutely no idea how well it fits to a normal sized paper. I would like to know so if I have empty space, I could includes common tips and info not like the shortcut keys. Like how to add another e-mail account?

Anyway, please let me know how well it fit within a simple page so I can try to add to it and improve on the layout if I can. Hopes to hear more about this so I can actually do something :) If you have any idea or suggestions, just let me know in this thread, I'm keeping an eye out here :)

I tried printing it in safari on a macbook at work and it really formatted well. The width is good and the boxes make it very readable. I did notice, however, that the line immediately after ustime (under ent) and the line after @direct (under entx) are cut in half and unreadable. Otherwise it is a very nice document.

okay, do you think setting the smaller font size would fit better? I'm not sure but do anybody here have any idea what is the smallest font size that is still quite readable?

I'm thinking of making several variety of the page for various schemes like double-sided printing, bare-bone for index card size, maybe even a simple business card format?

Gonna have to wait till late on this afternoon before I try setting up the extra pages. It's mostly just a formatting thing that takes the longest to finish with something like this and unfortunately the way formatting can varies mean that I still need to hear from more peoples here so I can make sure that the pages are as compatible as I can get it to be.

P.S. Do anybody knows of any particular good HTML to PDF converter for free? If I can use a program like that, it would make it much much easier for me to be sure that the way the site will be printed out as similar as possible for everyone.

A good way to test without printing is to open it in your browser and print it to a pdf. I know safari has that built in and I'm pretty sure windows can do it to. (You may need to download something though - not sure)

@krauser530: thanks for the idea! I'm on the newly released Firefox 3.5 and looked at the add-on. Turns out that there is a simple extension called printpdf that does the job perfectly. Unfortunately, I find that my site make 2 and half page in PDF. So I'm going to make another page later at http://stroud.freehostia.com/peekpdf.html (if you click on the link and don't see anything different, I'm just copying and pasting the original page there so I can edit it more easily)

    Try this for now,
    http://stroud.freehostia.com/peek3.pdf

is it still readable when printed out? If so, then there is enough room for me to add some images and spruce it up a little for another PDF in case someone want something better-looking.

:EDIT: Because I will be creating more pages and stuffs for the various version of the guide, it would be better for you all to check the home page of my site to see a list of all available peek-related links.

What a great idea! Thanks for compiling these for us, and putting them on an easily accessible site.

@deafcyclist - the latest PDF fits onto 8.5x11, with room to spare (as you noted). The font size is a tad small for my aged eyes, though... I'd vote for the existing white space be used to expand the font, rather than to hold images. My two cents!

I'd be inclined to agree with Pambudgie about a larger font.....but the way they print out now is pretty nice. It'll fit exactly in the case if you fold it in thirds!
But I agree that images aren't really needed.
